University Hospital Erlangen | Introduction datango authoring tool

Task

The University Hospital Erlangen (UKER) was planning to introduce the new MEONA clinical workstation system (KAS) in 2020. The corresponding preparations were to take place in 2018 and 2019. It was recognized that it would not be possible to create the numerous and extensive documentations required manually. As a result, UKER decided to purchase an independent authoring tool. The requirements for the new tool were uncomplicated and intuitive operation, full compatibility with the planned procurement of a learning management system and the ability to apply a role concept with different authorizations.

Parameters

  • Industry: healthcare
  • Project duration/period: Since 2018
  • Project title: datango authoring tool
  • Number of authors Producer: 8 master authors + 20 authors
  • Number of end users/learners: 6,500
  • Application: MEONA, SAP ISH, Microsoft Office

Solution & Result

Following a tender process, the University Hospital Erlangen decided to adopt the datango creator as its new authoring tool. The datango creator is intuitive to use – documentation is efficiently recorded during process execution with just a few clicks, and when updates are needed, only the affected process steps need to be re-recorded rather than the entire process. In addition to process documentation, UKER creates e-learning content such as datango Journeys and quizzes on topics like "Medication", "Charts", "Getting started with the clinical workstation system", and "Care planning & Documentation" for doctors and nursing staff. The created content is then seamlessly imported into the learning platform as a SCORM package. General content such as "FAQ Learning Platform" or "How do I use the employee portal?" and the manuals created with datango are made available via the Confluence employee portal. Content is created by key users from the departments as well as IT and its 7-8 sub-departments. Author training was conducted in advance by the datango support team. The datango Collaborator, the second product module in use at UKER, provides a corresponding role concept with different permissions such as master author and author.
